Easter 2010

Easter was really great. Phillip and I went to St Therese for Latin Mass and they sang this song at communion, it gave me the chills!

While he and I went to Mass, Ivy and Violet did an egg hunt and grandma and grandpas.

Then afterwards we went to  my cousin Diane’s house, where we spent some time surprise-smashing eggs filled with confetti on each other’s heads- way fun!

Here is video of Ivy singing as Snow White:

And if you click on the pic below you can see the photos from Easter 2010!

Happy Valentine’s Day

I’m not a fan of heart shaped boxes, teddy bears for grown women (shudder), or forced romance. Phillip and I “celebrate” at least a week or two after the actual date in protest of its commercialism, but still use the general time frame to remember to take time for each other. Since having kids this has been difficult, but when we go down to LA we will have family to look after the girls so we can spend some time alone together. To all our LA peeps: you are officially on notice for the weekend of the 26th! And as for today, the actual day of……

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

Happy New Year!

We spent New Years Eve in bed asleep, where we belong! But New Years Day was spent out and about at our friend Naomi and Gio’s house. We got there around noon, and had wild boar salami and chunks of Parmesan to tide us over until the pizzettas came out of the oven on freshly baked bread that Gio had made. And those pizzettas kept us until the rosemary-wrapped roast came along… and I thought that was it, but by around 4pm when I thought things must be winding down I found out that they had put ribs and another roast on the grill… because its almost dinner time. In the meantime, while we waited for that to be done Gio, Phillip, and another friend of theirs Josh worked on making some fresh mozzarella cheese for our after-dinner cheese course!

Here is Giovanni straining the mozzarella

The evening ended with a homemade orange chocolate chip custard based ice cream that Josh made. We finally rolled out at 9PM…. it was 9 hours of stimulating conversation, laughter, and delicious food. In case you are feeling like an inadequate host or hostess, don’t think you need to measure up to this…. Gio has the experience and resources of owning Nora’s Wine Bar & Osteria on his side. Well, I say don’t feel bad but to be honest I am kinda glad they have not been over to ours for dinner yet because I cannot offer them much more than our usual carne asada and spanish rice LOL.

Bottoms up! Ah, its good to be three!

Bottoms up! Ah, hello 2010!

Anyway, apart from our fun New Years Day, we are starting to get back into the groove of things, and regain a bit of the routine that tends to make my life easier. The girls and I are getting over our illnesses although I have this lingering sore throat that just will not go away despite the recovery of my voice.

The girls are enjoying all the new toys they got for Christmas and for Ivy’s birthday… Ivy has decided that her ballerina doll’s name is Ivy, and she thinks its a doll in imitation of her, which is pretty cute. And Violet is into absolutely everything and is still trying to climb anything she can reach.  And as for me, I have now officially sported my FancyThat hat when I wore it out on New Years Day.

Ta daaaa!!!

So I know this is kind of a long post, but I also wanted to put up these videos of Violet.

This one is for everyone to see and enjoy Violet’s “old chinese man” walk. I finally captured it on video. All she needs now is someone to walk 10 paces behind her.

And this video is of Violet dancing while Phillip plays our permanently out-of-tune and broken down piano (Christmas is just a year away, people! Now you don’t have to wonder what to get us. You’re welcome.) I had not seen her dance before, so I thought it was pretty fabulous and funny. Ivy is the bonus in the video as she dances around Violet.

She used Ivy’s toddler chair to get up there when I wasn’t looking. I turn around, and there she is, looking mighty proud of herself.
