Happy Birthday, Phillip!

Posted in Home Life | 13 Comments »

Phillip is now 34 and officially an old geezer. The girls and I baked him a cake. Are you so amazed? Actually, yesterday was super-domestic-diva day for me… I did the following:

Vacuumed
Mopped
Swept
Took child to doctor
Bathed children
Did laundry
Baked cake
Ironed husband’s clothes
Made dinner

The only think I did not do was sew something, and that is only because I ran out of time! Otherwise it would have been the perfect storm of domesticity.

Anyway, so we baked him a cake and we also made pizza from scratch for dinner. He was very appreciative, and it was actually a lot of fun. Usually I don’t like cooking or baking because the work to payoff ratio is just too low. But now that Ivy is old enough to help me I can see that it is very enriching for her to do this with me, so I think I will bake more from here on out. Violet sort of just hangs out and tries to steal whatever utensils we use. She also likes to taste test. A lot.

Here are some pictures from yesterday.

Violet haunted the cake, trying to grab a fistful whenever possible.

At the end of the day we suddenly stopped hearing Ivy play, so we turn around to find this

My poor little doll was so exhausted from all the work we did, she dropped mid-play!

Ivy Update

Posted in Home Life, Well This Is New! | 23 Comments »

I found out today that Ivy can fold towels. Last time I tried to get her to help me she would ball them up in no particular way, and hand them over. Today she folded them in half and then in half again… and then just to mix it up, she folded some in thirds!! I had no idea she understood the concept of thirds!

Violet Update

Posted in Home Life | 21 Comments »

Ok so these past couple days Violet has been very anti-diaper and anti-clothes. So she has been removing her diaper whenever possible, but she seems more likely to do that when she has wet it. This morning it was the same thing again. I was worried she would pee somewhere, since of course she is not anywhere near being potty trained.

So at one point this morning during all the nakedness, she started saying, “pee. pee.” and grabbing herself. I asked her if she had to pee, and she said yes. So I took her by the hand over to Ivy’s old potty seat (now Violet’s new potty seat, natch!), which she likes to sit on to pretend to pee. So I sat her on it, and she said “pee” a couple more times. I encouraged her to go ahead and pee, but of course I did not expect anything.

To my great surprise, she then proceeded to pee!!! Amazing. I clapped and said how proud I was of her. She seemed proud of herself too. I don’t really think she is ready for potty training, per se, because I don’t know if she has the muscle control yet. But I can see that she very clearly understands the concept, and that is half the battle!!

UPDATE: Violet woke up from her nap with a dry diaper so I asked her if she had to pee, and she said yes… and for the second time today she peed in her potty!!!
