Catholic Moms Halloween Potluck

Posted in Holidays | 21 Comments »

I had the Catholic moms group over today for a Halloween Potluck. It was a lot of fun and I met some new people, including one mom that goes to the Byzantine church! Very intriguing. Here are some pictures.

Their first mistake was allowing me to provide the drinks.

Let me make a note regarding the icy hand. Just so you know, the fingers are very breakable. If you ever make these you have to be very careful when removing the icy from the latex glove. You kind of have to let it thaw for a while and then be really careful as you remove the glove. Out of 4 hands, not even one made it into the pot in one piece. Fortunately the missing digits only added to the horror. And yeah, I just noticed that I misspelled “Elixir” on my label. Apparently calligraphy pens don’t come with spell check. Go fig.

Here is Ivy as a Dragonfly. The story of how I made the entire costume with household items will amaze and delight you, if I ever get around to posting it.

Getting Spookified: A Good Excuse Not to Dust

I finally got around to decorating for Halloween. Usually we are so much more on the ball about this, but I just haven’t had the interest lately. Now I have no choice, because I am having a Halloween Potluck on Monday. Actually, I am glad I finally got it done. Here are some pics of the decorations.

All that wealth, all that pow'r ever gave await alike the'inevitable hour... the paths of glory lead but to the grave.
The boast of heraldry, the pomp of power,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e’er gave,
Awaits alike th’ inevitable hour:-
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.

This black cat is on its last legs, no pun intended... but I really like him so we keep him around. I think Phillip's mom gave him to us. Maybe.

Snow White

I know I already posted a lot of pictures of Ivy as Snow White when she was at Town Square, but they did this for class this week and so I got some good video.

Grandpa and Grandma Come for a Visit

Posted in Ballet, Family Outings | 1 Comment »

This morning Grandpa and Grandma came into town…yay! We missed them! Ivy was really happy to see them and has not stopped pestering them to “come here”, “look at this”, “wanna play?” and of course “look at me! look at me! look at me!” Our only regret is that they can only stay until tomorrow morning.
Grandma gave her a bath this evening and read her a bunch of Halloween books that she had brought with her. They also showed us the plans for their house in Nipomo. It looks really nice, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!
Earlier today Ivy participated in a demonstration for her ballet class over at Town Square. While waiting for it to start I saw I missed a call from Sara. I called her back and she didn’t even say hi, she just started talking. It was weird. I tried to jump in and answer her but she didn’t seem to even hear what I was saying. Things were really noisy where we were, so I thought maybe I was not understanding what she was saying. It was like she was talking to someone else but I knew that could not be it, because she doesn’t have a cell phone anymore- just the house phone. And from what I could hear, what she was saying was pertinent to the last message I had left her. I tried to jump in again on her monologue to no effect. Then she stopped talking and another voice came on the line. It said “To listen to this message again, press 4. To delete this message press 7. To save this message press 9.” LOL… I actually had dialed my voicemail without even realizing it! What can I say, I was distracted! I felt really dumb, but it make me laugh really hard when I realized I was trying in vain to converse with a recorded message!!
Anyway, just then they were about to start so Grandma, Phillip, Violet and I went to sit down in the audience area while Grandpa sat in the shade with the stroller and our bags. The demonstration went well, and afterward we went to eat at CPK which was a treat… Thanks Grandma!

Violet’s Big Day

Posted in Home Life | No Comments »

So its just a typical Friday. But its been a big day for Violet. She is such a little sponge. She learned THREE new things today!

1) She learned how to hand over a toy when asked nicely. If we say her name, smile while holding out our hands and asking for whatever is in her hands, she will place it in our hand. But only if we follow that exact asking routine!

2) She tried to put on clothes. A pair of Ivy’s undies to be exact LOL. She is making the connection of how to get clothes on her body and that there is a method and a process.

3) She learned how to give high fives!

Its amazing, the rate at which she is learning! So that was Violet’s big day. And who even knows what else she has learned but has yet to reveal to us.

As for Ivy, she is brilliant, what can I say? Here is a picture of her where she is channeling the princess from the Neverending Story.
