Brunch, Turtles, and Laundry

Posted on Sunday, September 27th, 2009 at 6:30 pm

Today after church our friends Matt and Randi came over with their daughter Lucy to have a leisurely brunch with us. I made oblong pancakes, runny undersalted eggs, tater tots and sausage. Good thing they brought donut holes and strawberries and cream so we could snack on something while I took forever to make a mediocre brunch!

It was a good day, though. There was good conversation and good company, and the girls all played pretty nicely together (considering they are 3 girls under the age of 3)! After we finished eating, the girls had some fun with a laundry basket… never mind that there were toys available. It was the basket that was their preferred toy.

The girls all piled in the laundry basket

At one point Ivy called me and said “Look, mom!! Look!! Violets a turtle!!” I came over, fearing what that meant. And sure enough….

...Ivy had trapped Violet under the overturned laundry basket!!

Can you see her in there through the holes? Poor baby!!

Don’t worry, the picture taking only took about 5 seconds and then I freed her. Violet wasn’t even fazed by her imprisonment, fortunately. A few minutes later, Ivy called out again…”Look!! Lucy is a turtle!!” And Randi went running to save her daughter from Ivy. It was really hard not to laugh, but we don’t exactly want to encourage trapping children under laundry baskets.

It occurred to me at one point that I had just done a lot of laundry the day before, and there were no empty laundry baskets just lying around the house. Where in the world did Ivy get that basket and what happened to all the clean clothes???

Oh.

Oh.

Anyway, later in the afternoon after the Sowders left I got this cute pic of Violet as she felt the need to do some computer work.

Like father like daughter!

Then she gave me this really innocent look…

"Whaaaat? Does this look like the face of someone that would hack into your system?"

And that was our Sunday!

I seriously am still laughing about Ivy saying that she took the clothes out. It was hilarious. We really had a great time!!!! And now it’s our turn to host. Maybe dinner in a a couple of weeks?
