Violet’s Birthday

I know I am a week late but we have been having such a great time that I kept on meaning to post it and time just kept slipping by. It just amazing to think that an entire year has gone by. The day Violet was born seems so long ago, and yet this first year of her life has just gone by in an instant. She is officially a toddler. It happened a lot sooner than I was expecting-sooner than it happened for Ivy. I guess it just snuck up on us. Whereas I was hyper aware of Ivy’s every little milestone, Violet’s just gradually slipped into my awareness.

Since we have been in Missouri she seems to be progressing by leaps and bounds. She does little things that just constantly amaze us, and her communication skills are growing daily. Sara pretended to eat a peice of her bread and she shook her head “no”, and used her index finger to tap the table where she wanted it placed.

Another day she said “what’s this?” as she held up an item. Sara first heard her say it, and then I heard her say it a number of times, each time indicating an object. But it seems so advanced that I am still doubting that we really heard what we heard. Maybe we ascribed meaning to something that was just a babbled series of consonants. Every once in a while she blurts out a word that sounds just like a real word, but there is no way she could possibly know that word at just one year of age. “What’s this” is a perfect example. There is no way she could string words together like that, could she?? And yet it seems this is what she did! Its confusing, and I am just keeping attention fixed on the things she babbles, trying to makes sense of it, and trying to figure out if she is really talking or if I am just looking too deeply into her baby sounds.

Anyway, the morning of her birthday we went to Krispy Kreme, which was a rare treat for us. Here is Henry waiting for us to join him at the table:

We hung out most of the day and just chilled. Sara baked for Violet’s birthday, which to me is such a big deal because I rarely bake, and I find it to be pretty time consuming. So I found it to be very touching, especially since she had pulled out her hip that morning moving a high chair at Krispy Kremes (Ivy had spilled her milk all over the floor and we had to move everything out of the way for them to clean it). She is such a trooper!

We went to Mass in the afternoon, which was a beautiful Extraordinary Form of the Mass, complete with incense, patens, and Gregorian chant. Here is a picture of the priest wearing the vestments we made for him:

We had our little celebration for Violet in the evening.

And now, the requisite video. Here is Violet being hilarious and having fun with nothing at all except her great mood. Its guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

Mi pitusita! Enjoying the movement and her voice… or may be she’s acting something up? I wonder what’s on her mind… may be it’s a premature form of singing and dancing?
